| AD Specialty Sewing transitioned itself from a drapery business into an upholstery business after the introduction of mini-blinds in the 80's. We work on residential, commercial, and marine upholstery. We do not mass produce anything, so you will not walk into our store and find one hundred throw pillows, or fifty seat cushions for where one magical size will fit every chair you own. We custom make everything and just about anything you can dream up. We can make cushions for outdoor furniture, benches, swings, bay windows, bar stools, and dining room chairs. We can make decorative pillows for the living room, or new pillow shams for the bedroom. Most importantly, we can reupholster your current furniture that already fits into your house with a look that fits this century. At AD Specialty Sewing, we do all of the work in-house. We do not farm anything out to other workrooms, which allows us to maintain our high standard of quality control. Doing the work ourselves helps keep the costs down by not having to pay a middleman. This is important, because upholstery work is labor intensive work. We do not skimp on anything at AD Specialty Sewing. We remove all the old fabric which requires the removal of thousands upon thousand of staples, and then we make repairs and adjustments to the furniture piece itself if necessary. We do it right, or we do not do it at all. We are not a franchise, so we cannot change managers, or store names to avoid customers. We are a family owned business, and we stand behind all of our work. We have lasted 36 years in business, because we take pride in our work, and our craftsmanship. In addition to the quality labor we can offer you, we are able to offer 1st quality fabrics, feather pillow inserts, and high end seating foam. We carry sample books from more than 27 different fabric companies. Fabric companies such as: Kravet, Sunbrella, Laura Ashley, RM COCO, and Carole Fabrics. (see our fabrics page for a list of all the companies) We stock feather pillow inserts for the do-it-youself sewer that might want a specific size. (see our pillow page for sizes) We also sock high end foam. The Sunday paper is filled with furniture advertisements with furniture prices that make me want to go buy something. The problem is that great prices often come with not so great components. The frames will probably be sub par, but unless you entertain a troop of boy scouts on a regular basis, it will probably last a while. The fabric might not be rated above 6,000 double rubs, but it really takes a lot of use to wear out low rated upholstery fabric. The final place to save money is on the foam seat cushion. The foam is often a 3-5 year foam. The fabric and frame might still be in good condition after 3 years, but bad foam is hard to hide. The next problem is that foam is petroleum based, and high oil prices mean high foam prices. Replacing your seating cushions is expensive, but can make you sofa feel new again.
